Conversations No. 1

Handbuilt from NZ-made speckled buff clay and layered with dark engobe and glaze, this trio of pinched bowls embody a quiet tension between presence and withholding - the shadowed surfaces inviting closer inspection not of what is concealed, but of what is withheld. Informed by diasporic theory, the work speaks to the in-betweenness of overseas-born Chinese identity - where hybridity, difference, and fragmentation shape how belonging is formed and reformed over time.
