Conversations No. 3
These hand-pinched chawans, each made from a different New Zealand clay, explore themes of identity, diaspora, and cultural memory. Drawing from the Chinese tea ritual and grounded in the land of Aotearoa, the vessels sit between worlds — shaped by inherited tradition, yet formed in a new place. The green-glazed interiors evoke jade, a symbol of Chinese heritage, while the varied clays reflect the layered complexity of belonging. Together, they speak to the quiet negotiations of living in the in-between.
